The old joke says: how many Christians does it take to change a light bulb? The response: CHANGE??? Many people find change difficult, and I suspect that it doesn't get any easier, the older you get! Another famous saying says that besides death and having to pay tax, change is the only thing in life that you can be certain of! If that is true, then we'd better get used to the idea that change is inevitable. Of course change is fine, so long as it's not us that is having to do it, but that "ostrich," approach is unlikely to be very helpful either.
This month the newsletter contains details of some changes that the Leadership are trying over the summer period, which we pray you will accept and support. They come, because Thank God - the church is growing!and we need to make sure that we properly respond to the implications of God blessing us. When we resist change, we resist the opportunity that God gives us to change. None of us have yet reached a level of perfection, (nor will we till we reach Heaven), that allows us to stay as we are. In fact Paul writing to the Ephesian church says: "We will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ." Christ is to be our inspiration, our motivation, our model, our measure and our guide. Unless we truly reflect him in all our words, actions and thoughts there is still a need for him to increase, and us to decrease. Or, put simply, we still need to change in order to become like him!
In truth, I still have a way to go on this. I may not be quite as bad as some would report, but neither am I as good as Christ would like! The church exists to provide opportunities to meet with God, so that we can be enthused to better reflect him. I pray you'll join in and embrace the opportunity to change!
